Harley Davidson on a Crane
Many years ago, I videotaped an interesting event. It was in 1993, specifically October 30. I was awakened by the excessive noise of heavy machinery and looking out my window I saw a crane setting up in front of my apartment building. A crowd of people had gathered, and parked next to the crane was a vintage pickup truck and a Harley Davidson motorcycle. They seemed to be in the process of preparing to hoist the Harley to the 3rd storey balcony of the apartment building facing my window. I immediately got out my video camera and began filming. The event seemed quite surreal. Who does that? and why?
In the days following the event, I heard a story that was apparently published in a local newspaper. The story goes as follows: as part of the sales agreement, the vendor of the Harley Davidson motorcycle agreed to deliver said Harley to the living room of the buyer. The buyer however, lived on the third storey of an apartment complex. I was never able to verify the validity of the story, but I did witness a Harley Davidson motorcycle being delivered by crane through a 3rd storey balcony window! Funtastic!
For many years I could not locate this footage. In 93, we used 8mm video tapes to record and to view these tapes today is quite difficult since there aren’t any players left to play them on. Each tape contained 1 to 2 hours of footage, and finding a small segment meant going through hours of tape, then the footage needs to be digitized. Quite a bit of time consuming work. Fortunately, while searching for some other “lost” footage, I stumbled upon this one.
